Hartlepool Birding
The last day of July and my first chance for a while to spend a day birding with my friend Chris. We left York at 8am and our first stop was RSPB Saltholme to look at a special bird, a white wing black tern. We also saw a little gull and a red crested pochard. Then it was off the Bishop Middleham to see a pectoral sandpiper, we also saw a coomon sandpiper.Seaton Snook was our next stop to see a roseate tern, and then we went to Hartlepool Headland. We sat on the wall near the gun battery and watched gannets flying by. Closer to shore were some male ediers and some young razorbills and guillemots. A walk towards the fish dock allowed us to get close to two common scoters who were near the harbour wall.A few yards further on a small group of common terns were on the edge of the water. Our final stop was back at RSPB Saltholme where from the Phil Stead hide we saw a greenshank and a fox.
